These pages provide an
overview of the interesting project by the German coastal states and the German
federal government to fulfill the demands of a sustainable contingency planning
system for pollution incidents along the German sea coasts.
The German abbreviation
of Contingency Planning for Pollution Control (VPS) gave rise to the name of the
computer-aided system which was developed to reach this objective: VPS.system.
The operational results of the evaluation of the sensitivity mapping were realised
in digital maps and integrated into the core functionality of the VPS.system software.
To display the huge amount of sensitivity mapping data and to allow a wide range
of users to access the initial data, an additional, independent VPS module, VPS.sensi
was developed. This module is also available within VPS.system.
